UK user reports: BÜHLMANN fCAL® turbo on Roche cobas® analyser

Two satisfied customers from the UK report about the introduction of the BÜHLMANN fCAL® turbo in combination with the CALEX® Cap for their calprotectin measurements. Both laboratories applied the assay on their cobas® platforms and integrated the turbidimetric analysis into their daily routine work.

Pamela Bowe, Team Manager of the Department of Biochemistry at the Cumberland Infirmary, who switched from BÜHLMANN fCAL® ELISA on Dynex DS2 to BÜHLMANN fCAL® turbo on Roche cobas® c501:

“Comparison of patient calprotectin results between PETIA (particle enhanced turbidimetric immunoassay) and ELISA assays was good: fCAL turbo = 1.14 DS2 -23. R2=0.97. n = 58.”

“The faecal extracts are loaded directly onto the cobas 6000 in the bar-coded CALEX extraction devices.”

“By consolidating this assay onto our main platform we have saved a significant amount of staff time and removed potential for transcription errors previously DS2 was not interfaced.”

Rosie Forster and Karen Smith, Clinical Biochemistry at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, introducing in-house Calprotectin testing on Roche cobas® c702:

“Installation of the assay settings on the analyser and interfacing to the laboratory IT system was straightforward with the information supplied by BÜHLMANN.”

“In routine operation, the assay has displayed excellent precision with a %CV at 4.2% at 83 µg/g and 1.4% at 258 µg/g.”

“All staff involved found the CALEX devices easy to use for faecal extraction. […] The CALEX extraction devices also compared well to manual weighing.”
