The Quantum Blue^® Rapid assay combines the ease and speed of lateral flow technology (using a highly specific monoclonal antibody to Calprotectin), with full quantitation by means of a small, telephone sized reading device. The Quantum Blue^® Calprotectin reader analyzes the signal intensity from the test and control line to give a quantitative value and is standardized with the BÜHLMANN Calprotectin ELISA.

This diagnostic tool enables a rapid gatekeeper strategy based on Calprotectin levels in patient stool samples to support the physician’s decision on whether to prepare patients for colonoscopy or to treat them for the symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): Around 2 million people in Europe suffer from IBD. Morbus Crohn disease and Colitis Ulcerosa are incurable serious chronic diseases of the intestinal tract. The symptoms are distressing, embarrassing and even debilitating. Once symptoms appear, they often resemble those of other conditions of functional origin (IBS), which makes diagnosis difficult.
IBS is often confused with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease. The inflammation typical of these diseases is not present in IBS. It is thought that IBS affects over 30 million people in Europe and results in over 2 million visits annually to physicians. 20 to 30 percent of all visits to gastroenterologists are due to symptoms of IBS.
