MRP8/14
MRP8/14 is an early and sensitive marker of acute coronary syndromes, acute kidney allograft rejection and rheumatoid arthritis. The diagnostic value and advantage of MRP8/14 detection over other disease markers is that it is stored in the cell and released immediately in response to local inflammation. In contrast, other markers may be generated by downstream pathways or need to be synthesized de novo. The BÜHLMANN MRP8/14 assays allow for precise and sensitive measurement of this important diagnostic marker.

Elevated serum and plasma concentrations of MRP8/14 have recently been shown to play an important role in the management of patients suffering from cardio-vascular pathologies. The risk stratification and early diagnosis of patients with non-cardiac chest pain, stable coronary artery disease (CAD), or acute coronary syndromes (ACS) is of the utmost importance. The occurrence of elevated MRP8/14 in the systemic circulation prior to markers of myocardial necrosis makes it a prime candidate for the detection of unstable plaques and management of ACS. (Altwegg et al. European Heart Journal. 2007) In a screening approach among healthy individuals, it has also been shown that increasing plasma concentrations of MRP8/14 can predict the risk of future cardiovascular events (Healey et al. Circulation. 2006).
Transplant rejection
Elevated serum (or urine) levels of MRP8/14 are a very early, specific and sensitive prediction marker for acute allograft rejection in kidney transplantation (Burkhardt et al.; J Am Soc Nephrol, 2001; Jung DY, et al.; Transpl Immunol., 2008).
Rheumatoid arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease that causes inflammation of joints and
surrounding tissues and often affects other organs. It is an autoimmune disease because the body attacks healthy tissues instead of foreign substances.
Serum concentration of MRP8/14 also represents a useful marker for monitoring local inflammation in juvenile RA and correlates well with those measured in synovial fluids (Frosch M. et al.; Arthritis Rheum, 2000).
