Multimeric Adiponectin

Recent literature suggests that HMW Adiponectin and it’s ratio to total Adiponectin has a better correlation with disease Z(e.g. in type II diabetes) than total Adiponectin alone. Previously, the quantification of Adiponectin isoforms was expensive and time consuming. The measurement of Adiponectin complexes with the BÜHLMANN Multimeric Adiponectin is superior to total Adiponectin measurements in researching obesity, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, coronary artery disease and nutrition.

Human Adiponectin

Human Adiponectin is a 244 amino acid protein secreted by adipose tissue. Adiponectin circulates in the blood at very high concentrations (μg per mL). Circulating Adiponectin exists in oligomeric complexes, which may be classified as high molecular weight (HMW), middle-molecular weight (MMW) and low-molecular weight (LMW) . It has a direct impact on liver, skeletal muscle and blood vessels, with prominent roles to improve hepatic insulin sensitivity and to decrease vascular inflammation.

HMW Adiponectin and it’s Ratio to Total Adiponectin

Recent studies have reported that HMW Adiponectin and it’s ratio to total Adiponectin better correlate with type II diabetes pathogenesis than total Adiponectin measurements alone. New studies suggest that the reduction of body fat following gastric bypass surgery is an important determinant of the increase of HMW Adiponectin levels and the resulting increase in insulin sensitivity.

Multimeric Adiponectin ELISA Kit

Previous Adiponectin ELISA kits have only measured total Adiponectin. BÜHLMANN and Daiichi Pure Chemicals Co, Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) are pleased to offer an efficient ELISA system that quantifies HMW, MMW and LMW Adiponectin complexes and total Adiponectin using only one ELISA kit . The innovative design of this sandwich ELISA is based on anti-human Adiponectin monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) with a Calibrator derived from human plasma and proteases. All forms of denaturized human Adiponectin (monomers and dimers) are detected by these Mabs. These MAbs do not, however, react with either human protease-digested products or with mouse or rat Adiponectin molecules.
