Diagnosis and treatment efficiency of Sarcoidosis
ACE
For the direct and quantitative determination of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activity in serum. These assays finds wide use in both clinical and research settings. It is highly sensitive and consequently may be used when low ACE activity values are of interest.

In vivo, Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) catalyses the conversion of Angiotensin I to Angiotensin II and inactivates bradykinin, which regulates blood pressure via the Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System.
Elevated levels of serum ACE which are associated with the ACE-I/D-gene polymorphism have been measured in patients suffering from various disorders. They often indicate a poor prognosis or rapid progression of the disease:
• Granulomatous-inflammatory diseases such as Sarcoidosis and Mixed-Connective-Tissue Disease (MTCD)
• Nephropathies associated with Diabetes and Glomerulonephritis
• Cardiovascular diseases such as left ventricular hypertrophy, brain and myocardial infarction
Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease characterized by granulomas that can produce many different symptoms. It is generally a chronic disease, lasting for several years or a lifetime. In many people with sarcoidosis, the level of Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) activity in blood is high.
Product Application Substrate Specimen Use
ACE direct REA quantisation of ACE activity in serum and other specimen such as tissues, cells, urine, BAL etc by means of a radioenzymatic assay. 3-Hippuryl-Glycil-Glycine Serum Research, Routine (when increased sensitivity is asked)
ACE in plasma is not involved in these reactions and its patho-physiological significance is not known. Increased ACE plasma activities are described in a number of diseases, including Sarcoidosis.
